Kate L. Turabian was a dissertation secretary who must have slogged through a lot of papers in her thirty years at the University of Chicago.

At some point, it occurred to her that all the minutiae and picky detail of the CMS wasn’t necessary for students writing theses, dissertations and term papers.

So she customized, streamlined and tweaked the Chicago style and thus was born A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, favored by many teachers and professors.
