When you find a source you are interested in saving, click the Save online sources button on your toolbar to import the citation information from the source into a project. carmun can post a single source or an entire list of sources, such as a page of search results from Google Scholar or your library, simultaneously.

Yes, you can use Save online sources to import citation information from websites that carmun supports, such as the NY Times. If you are importing from a site that carmun does not support, you can still it, but make sure to type in any missing information.

First, install Footnoter. Click Here and follow the directions.

When you are ready to begin inserting footnotes launch the Footnoter icon on your desktop. Start by selecting the citation style from the pull-down menu, and the project that contains the sources you’ll be using. All sources will appear in the window. Highlight the source by clicking on it, select how it should appear (footnote, abbreviated footnote or parenthetical), add the page number(s) and hit insert.

If you are working on a PC the information should automatically appear in your paper. If it does not, or if you are working on a Mac you have to hit paste for the text to appear in your word document.

Footnoter supports Office 97, 2000 and 2003 for Windows and Office 2004 for the Mac.

Begin by choosing the type of citation you are entering (book, website, article, etc.), and then fill in the fields that are displayed. Repeat for each citation. Click print, or download, and you are done.

If you don’t want to type in all the information, you can start by typing in a book’s ISBN number and the fields will populate for you.

If you want to save your work and you are a member, click save, log in and you will be prompted to select a project. If you are not member, you will be prompted to join carmun in order to save your work. (It’s worth it!)

When you are ready to create a bibliography, select the project that contains the sources you wish to cite. Then click "download bibliography" or "print." The default citation format is MLA, but you may change this by selecting another format from the drop-down menu.

Choose a file from your computer that contains the works cited page you wish to store on carmun, select a project and hit "upload." Hint: Uploading works best with MLA or APA formatted citations. Be sure to double check that all citations were entered correctly. Click Here to "Reuse Bibliography."

There can be multiple reasons why you are having trouble uploading citations. Don’t get frustrated. Email us your list, and we will upload them for you and notify you via email when they are up. Email: feedback at carmun.com and put, reuse existing bibliography in the subject line.

You can locate individual sources by clicking on the "library locator" link located to the right of each citation. If you haven’t selected a school in your profile, the search defaults to University of Massachusetts, Amherst’s library. To check another school’s library, start typing the school’s name into the box and select it from the pull-down menu. The search starts automatically. Hint: Be patient! Sometimes it takes a minute or two to locate a source.

You can also locate every source in a project at once by opening a project and clicking on the "library locator" link at the top of the page.

Simply click the "create a study group" button located on your homepage. You must associate the group with an a topic area. Once you create a group, you can post a blog and start a discussion. You may choose to make the group private by checking the "invite only" box otherwise anyone on carmun may join.

If you know your friend’s name or screen name, start typing it into invite box on your group’s homepage. If you don’t know the person’s screen name, use the "find someone" button located at the top of every page. Search for your friend by first or last name, school or major. When you find your friend, click on the "invite to group" button located below his/her name and select the group you are inviting them to join.

At the moment, it is a multi-step process to invite a friend, but it’s worth it! First, you have to invite him/her to join carmun. Click on the "Invite" link at the top of every page and personalize your message by adding the name of the group you want him to join. Also, once s/he joins carmun, s/he will automatically be added to your list of friends.
